Bill Hanzlik - Co-Founder & CEO
Bill founded Gold Crown Foundation in 1986 with business partner Ray Baker with a purpose of filling voids in girls’ basketball. At that time, Bill was playing for the Denver Nuggets a team that he would play for almost his entire 10 year NBA career (he was a first round pick and played his first season for the Seattle Supersonics). Prior to his NBA career Bill attended the University of Notre Dame and lead the team his senior year to the NCAA Final Four before graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. Bill was a member of the 1980 US Olympic team but did not compete in Moscow due to a political boycott. After his playing days were over, Bill stayed in the NBA with a coaching career that took him to Charlotte and Atlanta as an assistant coach and then back to the Nuggets as the head coach for the 1997-98 season. Today, Bill works full-time at Gold Crown and continues to drive the Foundation mission to educate youth through sports and enrichment programs. When he isn’t working on behalf of Gold Crown Bill assists other Denver charities, serves as an analyst for Altitude TV during Nuggets games, and is on the Board of Trustees for Metro State University. He was a 2004 inductee into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and has received countless other awards for his community service and dedication to kids. Bill and his wife live in Greenwood Village and have four children; and his grandchildren are starting to add up as well!
Kevin Petty - Executive Director
Kevin joined the Gold Crown team in 2004 and in 2009 took over as the Foundation’s Executive Director. Prior to taking his current position Kevin ran the operations for the Gold Crown Basketball & Volleyball. Today Kevin oversees all Gold Crown business and fundraising operations as well as leading the foundation strategically per the Gold Crown mission. Kevin received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado and received an MBA in 2008 from the University of Colorado. He currently holds a seat on the Denver Sports Commission Advisory Board and has completed certificate programs for Downtown Denver Partnership Leadership Program, the Ritz Carlton Excellence in Service, and the Sports Business Journal Sports & Media event. Kevin is originally from Lakewood but now lives in Arvada with his wife Lindsay and three kids, Addison, Caden, and Avery. He loves downtown Denver and anything outdoors, especially in the mountains with his family and their two dogs. Kevin roots for all Denver sports teams especially the Rockies & Nuggets and in his downtime he enjoys reading about businesses and their founders (especially in the rapidly changing tech industry).
Tara Leipheimer - Accounting/Finance Director
Tara joined Gold Crown in April 2013 after working seven years for the family business. During her time at MCXpress USA & Leipheimer Motorsports Tara was the Controller among many other roles as you would expect in a family business. She received her bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from Montana Tech-University of Montana and qualified to sit for the CPA exam but decided to go in the small business direction. Tara is originally from Butte, Montana but now calls Downtown Denver her home. Coming from Montana she is naturally drawn to the outdoors and loves that she still gets all of that beautiful scenery here in Colorado. As a huge sports & music fan she spends much of her free time attending games and concerts in and around Denver but her favorites events are the Avs, Rockies, Nuggets, and Broncos games. She often travels back to Montana and when she does, she loves catching up with family and friends. One of Tara’s favorite parts about living in Denver is meeting all the wonderful people that live in the city!
Development & Marketing
Coby Chaney - Sponsorship & Development Director
Coby has been with Gold Crown for 18 years and has been involved in almost every aspect of Gold Crown. He began as a Program Director for Gold Crown Basketball and today manages all the corporate and grant relationships across all Gold Crown departments. He attended University of Nebraska-Kearney where he played on the Men’s Basketball Team and received honors as a First Team RMAC All-Academic athlete. He stays involved in college athletics today as an NCAA college basketball referee. Coby is originally from Lakewood but now lives in Littleton with his wife and two kids. He loves coaching/watching his kids play sports and always makes time for attending his favorite Colorado teams (Buffs and Rockies). When he isn’t at a sporting event, on the golf course, or with the family he soaks up the Denver music scene at several live shows each year.
Mark Rusch - Outreach Director
Mark has been part of Gold Crown since the very early years. He was hired in 1994 specifically to build a Jr. High competitive basketball program. The result was what would eventually become the largest middle school basketball program in the state and today is one of Gold Crown’s flagship programs. Before joining Gold Crown, Mark spent 10 years as an Athletic Director for the YMCA and held assistant basketball coaching jobs at Chatfield and Wheat Ridge high schools. From 1991-1994 Mark was the head boy’s basketball coach at Wheat Ridge winning the state championship in his first season. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Northern Colorado. Mark is a Colorado native, originally from Wheat Ridge and now calling Arvada home. He is an all Colorado sports fan but particularly follows CU Buffs sports the closest. In his free time Mark enjoys running, playing golf, and spending time with his family. Mark and his wife have two kids and two dogs that keep them very busy!
Meghan Scholbe - Marketing Director
Meghan joined Gold Crown full-time in 2008 after serving as a summer intern prior to graduating from college. She has held a few different positions at Gold Crown including Asst. Program Director and Sports Programs Director. She took over as Director of Marketing in January of 2014 and focuses primarily on the marketing efforts of the Gold Crown sports programs. Meghan received a degree in communications with a minor in business from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX where she also played four years for the women’s basketball team. Today she fills her free time with anything outdoors particularly running, concerts, sporting events, and spending time with friends/family. Meghan is a member of Junior League of Denver where she serves on the Public Policy Committee. She grew up in Centennial with her parents and two sisters and now lives in Denver which she loves because it is such an active city to live in with so many things to do outdoors.
Cole Gerard - Development/Marketing Assistant Director
Cole began his time with Gold Crown Foundation as an intern in the Sports Programs Department in the fall of 2014 and spring of 2015. Following his internships and graduation from Metro State Cole joined GCF full-time in May 2015 to work with the newly formed Development & Marketing team. While at Metro Cole received a bachelor’s degree in Sports Industry & Operations. Cole’s primary role at GCF is to research and write grants but he also spends a large amount of time on tasks related to sponsorships and marketing. Prior to coming to work for GCF Cole spent three years in the restaurant business as a bartender. Cole is originally from Greeley, CO where he grew up with one brother and one sister. He currently lives in Denver and spends his free-time consuming Colorado sports, music, and the outdoors. He is an avid Broncos fan and when he can he hits the road with the team to watch them in person at away games.
Jeff Petty - Senior Program Director of Operations
Jeff has been a part of Gold Crown for many years as a participant and then joining as an employee in 2009. He first worked as a part-time Field House Manager before coming aboard full-time. Jeff is famous for being a member of the Lakewood Tigers little league team that played in the very first game at Coca-Cola All-Star Park (he claims he went 4 for 4 with two doubles)! Academically, Jeff was honored as a “Slater Outstanding Citizen” in March 1993, went on to graduate in four years from Wheat Ridge HS, and finished up studying business management at Fort Lewis College. Today Jeff lives in Denver with his wife and son. He is a huge Colorado Rockies fan and spends his free time doing anything involving the outdoors. Experiencing all 4 seasons is Jeff’s favorite part about living in Colorado!
Tawny Dennis - Program Director
Tawny joined the Gold Crown sports team in 2011 after spending a year as an Account Executive for Aiello PR & Marketing Firm. She attended Colorado State University where she earned a degree in journalism and public relations with a minor in Spanish. During her CSU days Tawny spent two semesters at Gold Crown as an intern helping develop many of the Gold Crown sports events that run today. She currently lives in her hometown of Lakewood. When she isn’t rooting for all the Colorado professional sports teams and of course her CSU Rams, she helps coach softball at her alma mater Lakewood HS. Like most natives of Colorado, Tawny loves spending her time outdoors with friends and family, and nothing beats a Rockies game with her dad!

Fran Baker - Enrichment Executive Director
Fran has been with Gold Crown since the Enrichment program began in 2004 and since has overseen the day-to-day operations including daytime elementary school classes, the after-school Computer Clubhouse, and fundraising/development. Fran received a marketing degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology from NYU in New York City. She worked as a Buyer for May Company in Denver for several years. After teaching pre-school for 4 years, Fran returned to school to receive her teacher certification. She was a Title One reading teacher and Literacy Coach for Jefferson County for nine years. When Gold Crown Foundation made plans to build the Field House Fran led a needs assessment for the planning, designing, and implementing of the Enrichment programs. She worked to develop the relationship with Jefferson County schools to establish daytime programming which to date has served over 600 students. Under Fran’s direction, Gold Crown Enrichment was awarded licensing for the international after school program, The Computer Clubhouse, which today is the program Gold Crown is most proud of!
Adrian Collier - Enrichment/Computer Clubhouse Director
Adrian has been involved with the Computer Clubhouse Network since 2002, first as a mentor and Assistant Coordinator at the Southeast Family Center YMCA Computer Clubhouse in Colorado Springs CO, and currently serves as the coordinator at the Gold Crown Computer Clubhouse where he oversees the Computer Clubhouse as well as co-teaching technology the Daytime Enrichment classes. Adrian has experience in Computer Aided Drafting and network systems administration, and has always enjoyed working with technology and teaching others. Adrian’s interests include graphic design, music production, and 3D modeling. As a Clubhouse Coordinator, Adrian has been able to bring his love of music and digital arts to the youth, and help them connect with their passions.
Anna Fleming - Enrichment Instructor
Anna joined Gold Crown Foundation in May of 2013. During a normal day at Gold Crown Anna gets to spend her time working with kids on a variety of projects which allows her to share her interest in digital media and technology. Prior to joining Gold Crown, Anna spent 3 years as an Assistant Director at Telefund Inc. She graduated Cum Laude from Gonzaga University where she received a bachelor’s degree in communications and digital media studies. She is originally from Montrose, CO but now calls Denver home. Anna loves learning new technologies she can share with the kids of Gold Crown, she is a huge sports (Rockies) fan, and loves spending time outdoors in the great Colorado sunshine!
Galen Shoe - Enrichment Instructor
Galen team teaches art to students in our Daytime program and works closely with afterschool Computer Clubhouse members assisting them in creative projects using art and technology. He is the Room13 Liaison, a partnership program with The Integer Group which is a program designed to foster creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit. Galen joined Gold Crown in August 2006 and brought his experience in teaching art to youth with many different backgrounds. He gained this experience through work at Boys and Girls Clubs, Artstreet, and the Denver Housing Authority. He has studied media arts and animation at the Art Institute of Colorado and continues to educate himself further in media art studies using online tutorials and collaborative projects. Galen lives in Lakewood with his wife and children and in his free time he enjoys drawing comics, exploring new locations, beat boxing, playing Pokemon and skateboarding (even though his skateboard skills are questionable).
Elisha Gilb - Facilities Director
Elisha joined Gold Crown in 2004 shortly after the Field House opened and in 2015 was promoted to Facilities Director overseeing the Field House and All-Star Park operations. Prior to joining the team, Elisha spent 2 years with the Apex Recreation District and 6 years with the City of Lakewood in the Recreation Department. Elisha holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in counseling from Regis University and she is pursuing her PhD in psychotherapy at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Originally from Denver but now calls Lakewood home where she is raising two boys and a cat! Elisha loves the outdoors and access to the mountains and takes advantage of the hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, and other activities the Colorado outdoors has to offer. When she’s not heading up to the high country she enjoys writing (twice published as a poet) and rooting for Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos!
Dillon Barkman - Facilities Assistant Director
Dillon been working for Gold Crown in Sept. 2013 as a part-time building manager. In November of 2014 he was promoted to the full-time position of Facilities Coordinator and then in June 2015 was promoted to Facilities Assistant Director. Prior to joining Gold Crown Dillon worked for Elephant Bar in Belmar as a bartender and Quality Assurance Manager. Dillon is originally from Gypsum, CO and now lives in Lakewood with his Alaskan Malamut NaiNai. He graduated from Metro State in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Human Performance & Sport with a focus on sport industry operations. He is a hometown sports fan who roots for the Avs, Broncos, Nuggets, and Rockies. Being a native, Dillon loves living in Colorado and particularly enjoys anything outdoors, golf, fly fishing, disc golf, guitar, and playing basketball. He is a world traveler having visited 10 different countries in 2014 alone!
Kent Fellhauer - All-Star Park Supervisor
Kent joined the Gold Crown Foundation officially in 2012 however he had worked for the City of Lakewood as a Maintenance Specialist assigned to All-Star Park since the park opened in 1998. Kent is the only person who has ever maintained the grounds at All-Star Park therefore he is the only expert of keeping the entire park operating at such a high level! Kent is originally from Pueblo and now resides in Lakewood with his wife of 30 Carolyn. They have three children; Steven, Shawna, and Andrew. Kent attended Mesa State College and received a bachelor’s degree in Recreational/Leisure Services with an emphasis in Municipal Parks. He is an all Colorado sports fan and enjoys spending time in the mountains with family and enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather!
