Career Pathways: Be The Knowledge

As another exciting year of our Gold Crown Enrichment Career Pathways program comes to an end, we are excited to highlight the work these teens accomplished before they head out to their summer internships.

This year, 22 high school students came together from across nine different metro Denver area schools for this ten-month program. These young people engaged in college and career readiness training through critical thinking skills development, financial literacy workshops, career panel interviews, and other weekly STEM and digital art activities to help them prepare for next steps after high school.

The biggest component of the program year was the "project phase", a four month long collaborative effort among the students to develop entrepreneurial strategies that inspire social change. This year, the Pathways students formed "Se el Saber -Be the Knowledge," which is an artistic media campaign highlighting mental health strategies, immigration rights, and spreading a message of positivity in local neighborhoods and communities.

The cohort was divided into several different departments - administration, digital media, magazine creators/editors, and design fabrication. Each group was responsible for developing different elements of “Se el Saber” and undertook projects such as short films, podcasts, DIY art magazines, and their own digital media accounts. The group also created a “Positivity Post,” which is a mobile library that shared student-created zines focused on mental health, immigration, and human rights. This traveling post was present at the Belmar Library, Edgewater Civic Center, and the Gold Crown Field House.

This year’s class truly went above and beyond to bring their message of light and knowledge to the world. We are so proud of what they have accomplished and are eager to witness what more they will achieve in the world. We were able to celebrate the class's accomplishments at an end of the season party. Please wish them luck as their now begin their final chapter of the program year…paid summer internships in a variety of businesses and realms across metro Denver!
