She is currently dominating the Pac 12 Conference, but did you know that Michaela Onyenwere got her start playing Gold Crown Basketball? From winning the prestigious honor of Miss Colorado Basketball in 2017 to earning a scholarship at UCLA to play basketball, we are proud to share her story.
GC: When did you play Gold Crown Basketball?
MO: I started playing Gold Crown Basketball in 7th grade and continued to play in their high school tournaments for Grandview High School. The programs are something I am very familiar with and had a lot of fun playing in.
GC: What is your favorite Gold Crown Basketball moment?
MO: My sophomore year of high school, I was playing with Grandview at the High School Team Camp against a team from Wyoming. I hit the game-tying shot to send the game into overtime.
GC: What is your major at UCLA?
MO: Right now, I’m pre-psychology and I’m really excited to explore that field.
GC: What advice do you have for younger female athletes?
MO: Always work hard. There are no short cuts to success and fulfillment; working hard will get you to where you want to be!
Thanks, Michaela, and good luck this season at UCLA! Keep an eye out for her, #21, and watch her in person against CU on February 8th.
